I went for the follow-up with my sinus doc last week. After 2 months (!!) on the nebulized antibiotics, only half of my sinus infection is cleared up. The doc suggested sinus surgery to open up the passageways on that side of my nose. I go for the CT scan on Friday, then he'll call me with the results and schedule the surgery.
*big sigh* I just want to not have sinus headaches every day, to be able to breathe out of both sides of my nose, and to not be exhausted all the time. Is that too much to ask?

poor thing! I hope that the infection clears up. Two months of antibiotics is the pits. I suppose you've tried neti pots etc.
Do be cautious and read up before agreeing to have your turbinates trimmed, though. A swift google of "empty nose syndrome" will give you an outline of the problem. My gf studies mucus membranes for a living and shudders at the thought of reducing that surface area.

It's even worse than that -- I've been on oral antibiotics almost continuously (with a week or two between courses) for 6 months, then the two months of inhaled antibiotics after that.
Antibiotic resistant sinus infections are a biatch. I had a partial turbinectomy six years ago which improved things for me (went from having about 10-12 new sinus infections a year to having 1-2).
Right now, the troublesome sinus is pretty much continually blocked. The inhaled antibiotic can't get in there, and things can't drain. Yeah, the neti pots/saline rinses can't even get through the congested side very well.
So, my choice seems to be the surgery or see if the doctor will put in a PICC line for ~6 weeks of IV antibiotics. I'll ask him about the Empty Nose Sydrome, too though.
